VIRGIN ATLANTIC VOUCHER GUIDE
Virgin Atlantic companion voucher guide
What the voucher is worth, how Red differs from Silver or Gold, when you need extra points, and how to use one—or two—without an expensive surprise.
Estimate a trip with your voucherA Virgin Atlantic companion voucher does not simply make every second ticket “free.” It covers the companion reward up to a points limit, while taxes, fees and any points above that limit still need to be paid.
The quick answer
Virgin Atlantic now calls it a Flying Club reward voucher. At redemption you choose whether to use it for a companion reward or an upgrade reward. This guide focuses on the companion option: one primary traveller books with money, Virgin Points or a mixture, and the voucher is used to add a companion on the same flight.
- Red members receive up to 75,000 Virgin Points of companion value.
- Silver and Gold members receive up to 150,000 Virgin Points of companion value.
- Your Flying Club tier when you redeem the voucher decides its value—not your tier when you earned it.
- The companion still pays the standard taxes, fees, charges and surcharges.
- Voucher bookings must be made directly with Virgin Atlantic by calling its Customer Centre.
The voucher has a maximum points value. If the companion reward needs fewer points, the unused value is not saved. If it needs more, you pay the difference in Virgin Points.
Red vs Silver or Gold voucher value
The difference is the maximum number of points the voucher can cover for the companion reward.
Up to 75,000 Virgin Points of value at the time of redemption.
Up to 150,000 Virgin Points of value at the time of redemption.
Moving tier can therefore change the voucher's value. A voucher earned while Red can be worth up to 150,000 points if you are Silver when you redeem it. The reverse also applies if your status falls before redemption.
How the points calculation works
Think of the voucher as a cap applied to the companion reward. These simplified examples show the points side only; taxes, fees and charges remain payable for everyone.
- Red voucher covers
- 57,500 points
- Silver or Gold voucher covers
- 57,500 points
- Extra companion points needed
- 0 points
- Red voucher covers
- 75,000 points
- Extra points with Red
- 15,000 points
- Silver or Gold voucher covers
- 90,000 points
If the companion reward uses only part of the voucher's maximum value, the balance is not returned for another trip. Virgin redeems the voucher in full when the booking is made.
Using two vouchers for four travellers
Virgin Atlantic permits multiple vouchers of the same reward type on one booking. For four people, two primary bookings can each be paired with one companion reward, producing four seats in total—subject to the required seats being available.

You cannot mix companion and upgrade rewards on the same booking. If you use multiple vouchers together, they must all be used for the same type of reward.
Cabin and flight rules
- Companion rewards can be used in Economy Classic, Premium or Upper Class, but not Economy Light.
- The primary traveller may fly in the same or a higher cabin than the companion. The companion cannot be placed in a higher cabin than the primary traveller.
- The primary traveller and companion must fly on the same date and flight.
- The voucher applies only to Virgin Atlantic-operated flights booked directly with Virgin Atlantic—not partner-airline flights.
- The booking remains subject to reward-seat availability at the time Virgin completes it.
Expiry, return trips and one-way flights
Vouchers earned on or after 30 October 2024 are valid for 24 months from the award date. The booking must be made during that period and the outbound flight must be flown on or before the expiry date; the return flight may take place later. Older vouchers keep their original expiry date.
One voucher can cover one return trip or two sectors booked together on the same booking. You can use it for a single sector, but doing so redeems the voucher in full.
Check the exact expiry date inside your Flying Club account. A search date after the outbound expiry will not become eligible just because the return falls within the voucher period.
How to book with the voucher
Find the reward seats first, then call Virgin Atlantic's Customer Centre to redeem the voucher. Virgin's current terms say the booking must be completed at least 24 hours before departure and cannot be added at the airport.
Before confirming, ask the agent to read back the full points total, taxes, fees, cabin on each sector, voucher used and any extra points required above the cap. If plans change, standard change and cancellation terms apply; an eligible voucher may be returned with its original expiry date.
How Reward Seat Scout uses your voucher
In the trip builder, select the number of travellers, your voucher type—Red or Silver / Gold—and the number of vouchers. Scout estimates the total Virgin Points after applying the relevant 75,000 or 150,000-point cap to each companion.
For four travellers, Scout allows up to two vouchers because Virgin requires one primary booking for each companion reward. The result is a planning estimate: Virgin Atlantic remains the final source for availability, eligibility, points and cash charges.
Build a live voucher-adjusted searchCommon companion voucher questions
Can a Virgin Atlantic companion voucher be used in Upper Class?
Yes. Virgin Atlantic says a companion reward can be used in any cabin except Economy Light. The primary traveller must be in the same cabin or a higher cabin than the companion, and both travellers must be on the same flight and date.
Do I still pay taxes and fees with a companion voucher?
Yes. Standard passenger taxes, fees, charges and surcharges still apply to companion and upgrade rewards. The voucher reduces the Virgin Points needed for the companion reward; it does not remove the cash charges.
Can I use two companion vouchers for four people?
Yes, subject to availability. Virgin Atlantic gives the example of two companion rewards being added to two primary bookings, creating four seats in total. The booking can use multiple vouchers of the same reward type, up to one per person per sector.
Can I use a companion voucher for a one-way flight?
Yes, but the voucher is redeemed in full. It can instead cover one return trip or two sectors booked at the same time on the same booking.
Does the voucher holder have to travel?
No. Virgin Atlantic's current terms say the voucher holder does not need to travel on the booking. Silver and Gold members may also gift a voucher to another Flying Club member.
